Chef Maudie is returning to the HKS Kitchen to teach a legendary Louisiana classic – shrimp étouffée. Here’s your chance to find out how she creates these delicious dishes that have been warming the bellies of her restaurant patrons for years. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a cured meat and cheese platter, seasoned up Cajun style. Next, roll up your sleeves and let the chopping begin! You’ll prep your zucchini, squash, tomatoes, and corn for your hearty side dish – farmer’s market succotash – and then you’ll make the main dish – shrimp étouffée – from scratch, the Chef Maudie way! As a treat, Chef will be bringing her white chocolate bread pudding (a secret recipe) to share with you for dessert. Throughout class, you’ll learn about Cajun ingredients and seasonings so you can recreate these authentic dishes at home in your own kitchen. Recipes will be provided; however, the bread pudding recipe will not be shared. Tickets are priced per person.

MEET THE CHEF:
Born and raised in New Orleans, Chef Maudie Schmitt has an extensive restaurant heritage and learned to cook from the many great chefs in her own lively family. She taught special education for 23 years until deciding to open a restaurant. Cafe Rue Orleans opened in 2001 and has been blessed with much success in the NWA area. Chef Maudie recently competed on Food Network's Supermarket Stakeout where she was a runner up!
