Learn how to give new life to your sourdough discard in the HKS Kitchen with Chef Nena Evans as she guides you through a creative, hands-on cooking class that shows you how to turn your sourdough discard into crave-worthy staples. You’ll begin with a Charcuterie Board that features chef’s crisp Sourdough Crackers and rustic Sourdough Bread along with a sampling of Meats, Cheeses, and More. Then you’ll roll up your sleeves and learn how to transform sourdough discard into a variety of versatile recipes—from Cookies with Chocolate, Toffee, and Caramel Bits to crisp Herb-Seasoned Crackers, and soft, flexible Tortillas for tastier taco nights. Throughout the class, you’ll learn practical tips for reducing kitchen waste while maximizing flavor. If you’re looking for sourdough inspiration that goes beyond the boule, this class is for you. Recipes will be provided. Tickets are priced per person.

*All class ticket sales are final. No refunds or credit transfers to other classes are available. If you purchased a ticket and are unable to attend, please contact us to check our waitlist.*

MEET THE CHEF:

Born and raised in Arkansas, Nena Evans has a love for gardening, cooking, and the outdoors. Currently, Nena and her husband live in Mountainburg, where they have a cat and 13 chickens. They have dreams of owning their own veggie and livestock farm one day, and are slowly building that dream into reality. Nena's journey with sourdough started 2019 while she was working as the Garden and Nutrition Manager at the NWA Food Bank. One of the garden volunteers, a local pastry chef, shared her starter with Nena, and she's been baking ever since! She loves knowing what goes into her food and enjoys the process of crafting simple ingredients into something delicious and wholesome. Nena's starter, Breadly Cooper Hammer, is said to date back to the 1908 World's Fair. He has been lovingly cared for and passed down for generations. She's thrilled to share Breadly and her sourdough knowledge with you!
