The Unofficial Zelda Cookbook is Here!

Did you grow up playing Zelda like I did with my sister? It was THE game of my childhood, and now Link is back in "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom". Although I haven't tried out the new TOTK, Zelda has come full circle for me in the form of a cookbook! The Unofficial Zelda Cookbook by Thibaud Villanova is so much fun for foodies like me who feel nostalgia for all things Zelda. That's why we ordered copies of the Zelda cookbook for our kitchen store! We even tried one of the recipes from the book while at work recently. Here's a hint: it's light and refreshing with strong notes of cantaloupe, an undertone of pineapple, and a surprisingly enjoyable fruity foam on top. Perfect for refueling after some hardcore Zelda play time!

Noble Pursuit

We decided to make a mocktail called Noble Pursuit from the Gerudo Region, the most hostile place in the Kingdom of Hyrule! The region is known for its sandy desert, arid air, and extreme temperatures. On top of that, the Gerudo town is forbidden to voe (men), but luckily for us vai (women), we do not have a problem at all! 

Given the extreme temperatures of this region, we thought a refreshing mocktail would be a great recipe to try. The level of difficulty is easy and the preparation time is 10 minutes. This mocktail calls for melon, watermelon, pineapple juice, lime, ice, and sparkling water. It's as refreshing as it sounds, making it a perfect summer mocktail! 

The fun part about this recipe is the creating the melon and watermelon ball skewer that adorns the whiskey glass. Eating fruit is much more enjoyable when the fruit is fun-shaped, right? 

When we tried this recipe we did not have a melon baller, the recommended tool, with us to scoop the fruit. Instead, we used a cookie scoop we had on hand, and it worked just fine. If you don't have a melon baller in your kitchen, consider adding one to your set of kitchen tools!

  • 1 melon

  • 1/2 a watermelon

  • 1 cup pineapple juice

  • Peel and juice of 1 lime

  • A few ice cubes

  • Sparkling water

  • Start by cutting the melon in half and removing the seeds. Using a melon baller, use half of the melon to make melon balls and set aside. Remove the rind from the remaining half. Dice the flesh and put it in a blender. 

  • Using the melon baller, make watermelon balls and set them aside. 

  • Add the pineapple juice, lime juice, and a few ice cubes to the diced melon in the blender, and blend vigorously for 30 to 45 seconds. Proceed to the assembly. 

    Strain the melon-pineapple mixture, then serve immediately in whiskey glasses. Place melon and watermelon balls on top of the mixture, and top with chilled sparkling water. 

    Peel the lime. Twist and squeeze the peel over each glass and garnish each glass with a strip of lime peel. Enjoy immediately.
